12-21-2024 – I am currently reading, watching videos, and taking online practice exams & quizes in preparation to sit for the “CompTIA A+ Certification”, and other certifications. https://www.comptia.org/certifications/a . I will be taking the exam in a highly controlled environment at a testing center, similar as to when I passed the Microsoft Exams back in the 1990s. The exams include 180 questions total, in 2 different exams, which must be answered in 180 minutes, or 3 hours maximum. There is a combined passing requirement minimum of 76.38% correct, to obtain the certification. Navigation forward and backwards is allowed through the exams, with the exception of the Virtual Machine simulation lab.

“The CompTIA A+ Core Series requires candidates to pass two exams: Core 1 (220-1101) and Core 2 (220-1102) covering the following new content, emphasizing the technologies and skills IT pros need to support a hybrid workforce:

  • Increased reliance on SaaS applications for remote work
  • How to remotely diagnose and correct common software, hardware or connectivity problems
  • Evolving core technologies from cloud virtualization and IoT device security to data management and scripting
  • Multiple operating systems, when to use them and how to keep them running properly
  • Reflects the changing nature of the job, including how to assess if it’s best to fix something on site, or send it to a specialized provider

CompTIA A+ is compliant with ISO 17024 standards and approved by the U.S. DoD to meet Directive 8140.03M requirements. Regulators and governments rely on ANSI accreditation because it provides confidence and trust in the outputs of an accredited program. Over 3 million CompTIA ISO/ANSI-accredited exams have been delivered since January 1, 2011.”

“The CompTIA A+ certification exam is scored using a scaled system that’s based on the number of questions answered correctly: 

  • Scoring systemCompTIA uses a mathematical algorithm to calculate a scaled score for each exam. The scaled score is similar to a percentage score. 
  • Question weightEach question has a specific weight, and the final score is based on the points earned for each correct answer. More complex questions likely have higher point values. 
  • Passing scoresThe passing scores for the CompTIA A+ exams are:
    • 220-1001: 675 out of 900 
    • 220-1002: 700 out of 900 
  • Exam structureThe CompTIA A+ certification exam has up to 90 questions and takes 90 minutes to complete. The exam can be taken in any order, and there’s no time limit between the exams. 

The exam includes two types of questions: 

  • Multiple-choice: Most questions are multiple-choice, with four or more possible answers.
  • Performance-based questions (PBQs): These hands-on questions test critical thinking skills and technical understanding. PBQs are weighted more heavily than multiple-choice questions.

To get certified, you must pass two exams from the same series. The current series is 220-1101 (Core 1) and 220-1102 (Core 2).”
